Chemical Process Consulting Engineer

EMC Energy Consulting (EMCE) is an innovative, energy economics research, process operations consulting, and management consulting company. EMC Energy Consulting has multiple openings and an immediate need for qualified Chemical Process Consulting Engineers with experience in FPSO Unit Operations, Refinery Operations, Petrochemicals & Aromatics, and Gas Processing Plants.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position will work closely with the Technical and Operations groups of client organizations to:

  • Troubleshoot and optimize plant operations and implement effective solutions to operating problems.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, develop and implement process improvement projects that will enhance production, energy efficiency, product quality, and environmental performance.
  • Perform project feasibility studies, evaluate plant performance, and make written and oral presentations of findings and recommendations to plant management and other personnel.

In addition, this position may be required to perform other process engineering, project management, and Operations-related duties that are necessary to help clients accomplish business objectives. At times, extensive travel (both national and international) may be required, as this is a process consulting opportunity. This position will spend more than 80% of its time at the client’s facilities as having a close working relationship with client’s Operations and Technical personnel is critical to our success as a ‘quality service‘ organization.

Job Requirements

This position requires 2- to 12- years of experience, with an operating company, performing unit monitoring, process troubleshooting, and optimization duties. Experience performing economic analyses and project evaluations, and preparing unit performance and analysis reports is desired. Must be skilled in unit design and process simulations using packages like ProSim and HySim

Refinery Operations, Job Code: CE01703

The successful candidate will have Operations Support experience in one or more of the following areas of a refinery: Crude Distillation, Coker, Utilities, FCCU, SRU & Amine Systems, Reforming, Hydrotreating, Blending, and Economics.

Petrochemicals & Aromatics, Job Code: CE01803

The successful candidate will have Operations Support experience in one or more of the following areas: Olefins, Aromatics, Isomerization, Alkylation, and Economic Optimization.

FPSO & Gas Plant Operations, Job Code: CE01903

The successful candidate will have Operations Support experience in one or more of the following areas: FPSO and natural gas processing plant operations.

Essential Skills

The successful candidate will be an independent thinker who can work with minimal supervision, uses initiative, and functions effectively in a diverse team environment. Must be effective in communicating to all levels of the client organization, and must have the ability to translate the results of complex engineering analysis into clearly understood language and recommendations tailored to the specific target audience. Outstanding communication (both oral & written) and presentation skills are essential. Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks/ projects and produce quality results.

Must be familiar with engineering optimization mathematics and be able to formulate and code problems from scratch. Experience with HYSYS, AspenPIMS, LINDO, or LINGO will be a definite plus. A strong understanding of chemical engineering thermodynamics, distillation, and reaction engineering is essential for this position. Experience with Visual Basic or Visual C++ is desired. Must be skilled with MSOffice applications including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Education: A Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution is the minimum academic requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work in a plant environment and perform physical duties such as climbing towers and other tall structures. Occasionally you may be required to enter confined spaces such as distillation towers and reactors to inspect internals. Occasional shift coverage may also be required.
